The best stuff from last weekend’s L.A. audio show

  • The biggest and most realistic soundstage I heard at T.H.E. Show — and indeed, pretty much anywhere else, too — came from this setup made by Sonorus Audio. It included a pair of beautifully simple electrostatic speakers, driven by a set of amplifiers built specifically for the speakers. The basic system costs $100,000. Add $13,000 more for the reel-to-reel tape deck, which Sonorus builds using Studer motors and heads. Noticing the totally entranced showgoer in the seat in front of me, I was reminded once again of why so many of us get so into good audio.
